The President of Basra University for Oil and Gas chairs an expanded meeting with experts and economists in oil, gas, and energy to establish a specialized energy center.

On Tuesday morning, October 6, 2026, the President of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Muhammad Halil Hafez Al-Kaabi, chaired an expanded meeting that included a number of experts, specialists and economists in the fields of oil, gas and energy, to discuss the proposal to establish the (Energy Center for International Scientific and Legal Consultations) at the university.

The meeting witnessed an extensive discussion of the vision, goals and proposed specializations of the center, which aims to be a specialized center of expertise in the fields of oil, gas and energy, and a scientific and advisory platform that brings together academic, engineering, legal and economic expertise, in order to contribute to supporting local and international oil and energy institutions and companies.

The center is set to provide specialized services and consultations in a number of areas, including exploration and development contracts, licensing, investment, drilling, oil services and wells, as well as providing technical, legal and economic advice to refineries, fields and oil companies, and contributing to the study and preparation of tenders and contracts related to the energy sector.

The center also seeks to build a collaborative network that brings together universities, researchers, local and international experts and consultants, and to provide a scientific environment for the exchange of experiences and knowledge, in addition to providing engineering and consulting solutions in the fields of oil, gas, renewable and smart energy, and supporting modern trends towards developing energy sources and achieving a gradual transition towards clean and renewable energy.

During the meeting, Mr. Al-Kaabi stressed the importance of establishing this center as a scientific center of expertise specializing in the fields of oil, gas and energy, noting that the university seeks through it to employ its academic and scientific expertise in serving the oil and energy sector, enhancing partnership with institutions and companies, and opening up broader horizons for cooperation, consultations and applied research.

This approach comes within the framework of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas’s endeavor to enhance its scientific and advisory role, and to consolidate its position as an academic institution specializing in the fields of oil, gas and energy, and to link academic knowledge with the needs of the labor market and the energy sector at the local and international levels.
