The administrative assistant at the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Ali Karim Al-Asadi, participated as a member of the committee discussing the doctoral thesis of the researcher (Huda Yasser Mohammed) at the University of Basra, on the morning of Thursday, September 3, 2026. After the student defended the content of her thesis and what was contained therein, the committee decided to grant her a doctoral degree with a grade of (very good) amidst the joy of her family.
In pursuit of comprehensive academic development plans, and under the patronage of the President of Basra Oil and Gas University, Professor Dr. Muhammad Halil Hafez Al-Kaabi, the Continuing Education Center at the Presidency of Basra Oil and Gas University organized an extensive specialized training course entitled: (Preparing the Educational Package for Economics Materials), which began on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2026, and will continue for three consecutive days to conclude on the third of this month, with the attendance of the heads of scientific departments and with broad participation from all teaching staff.This course, in which Assistant Professor Dr. Nassif Jassim Mohammed, Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Hadi Jaaz, and Assistant Lecturer Issa Jaafar Baqir are lectured, aims to enable teaching staff, especially professors and teachers of economic and administrative sciences, to acquire the modern educational and scientific tools necessary to build, design and update curricula according to advanced education systems, and in line with international quality and academic accreditation standards, to meet the requirements of the accelerating knowledge transformation in the oil and gas and national economy sectors to supply the labor market with quality outputs.The course includes providing detailed topics and a comprehensive explanation that addresses the integrated concept of the educational package and its basic elements, from teaching guides and knowledge resources to digital teaching aids. It also includes practical training for participants on formulating behavioral and cognitive objectives, designing tests, assessment tools, and interactive activities that ensure the delivery of knowledge material to students with the highest possible efficiency. The first day witnessed great interaction from the attendees through the presentation of interventions and extensive discussions that focused on the mechanisms for updating economic curricula. This initiative embodies the university administration's continuous commitment to raising the level of teaching and research performance and providing an integrated educational environment that keeps pace with the latest global strategies in higher education and scientific research.
In a move that embodies its scientific openness to global academic institutions and extends bridges of academic communication across continents, the European Association of Geologists and Engineers (EAGE) chapter at the University of Basra for Oil and Gas, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Maysaa Nouri Shehab, participated in a reference session and an inspiring virtual visit with its counterparts in the chapter of Brawijaya University in Indonesia, entitled “Beyond Borders,” on Friday, August 28, 2026. Communication and preparation for this meeting took place over the past 6 months. The virtual session witnessed an active attendance and distinguished participation that included twenty-six members from both sides. The University of Basra for Oil and Gas chapter was represented by a select group of student members, namely Maryam Nizar and Noor Al-Huda Aqeel from the fourth stage, in addition to Karrar Ahmed and Ali Emad from the third stage, who contributed effectively to enriching the dialogue and exchanging knowledge ideas.This outstanding collaborative exchange provided both chapters with a valuable opportunity to share visions and ideas about organizational work methods and the workflow of internal teams, as well as to highlight pioneering programs and innovative initiatives planned for launch within joint future events and activities. The virtual session also included extensive and fruitful discussions rich with many valuable benefits and lessons, starting from exploring innovative design approaches and modern methods for developing visual and engineering content, and reaching the discussion of public relations strategies to enhance communication mechanisms and build academic partnerships, in addition to exchanging experiences in modern technical activities and workshops used in the energy sector and exploring ways to enhance student participation and their broader integration in the fields of oil and gas and earth sciences.In a gesture of appreciation reflecting the excellence of the university delegation and the success of this international cooperation, Brawijaya University in Indonesia awarded a certificate of appreciation signed by their university president, Valentino Samuel LS - Chairman of IMGF UB, and Iffat Fawwaz Sinatrya - President of EAGE, in addition to Topantio Toha Sinurat - Chief Executive, to the delegation of the Basra Oil and Gas University chapter in recognition and appreciation of their effective efforts in making this distinguished scientific event a success. In conclusion, the administrative body of the Basra Oil and Gas University chapter expressed its sincere thanks and appreciation to their counterparts in the Indonesian chapter and its administration for their hospitality, their lively presentations, the certificate of appreciation, and the valuable discussions that resulted from the session, stressing the continuation of this joint bilateral cooperation and the organization of broader scientific events in the near future in a way that serves the educational and professional journey of the students of both universities.
To enhance joint cooperation and develop the skills of workers in the oil sector, under the patronage of the President of Basra Oil and Gas University, Professor Dr. Muhammad Halil Hafez Al-Kaabi, the Continuing Education Center at the Presidency of Basra Oil and Gas University organized a comprehensive specialized training course for employees of the South Gas Company (second batch) entitled: (Gas Testing "AGT"), this morning, Sunday, August 30, 2026, to qualify and develop the examiners authorized to conduct tests and examinations in vital work sites.The course, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Kadhim Saddam, Director of the Continuing Education Center, and Assistant Lecturer Muntadhar Oraibi Jassim, Head of the Training Division, focused on the mechanisms for detecting toxic gases associated with oil operations, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO), and carbon dioxide (CO2), and determining their concentrations and permissible oxygen levels to ensure a safe working environment in enclosed spaces and high-risk locations. The course aims to prepare and qualify inspectors authorized to conduct accurate examinations and tests in vital work sites and to apply safety and prevention procedures to reduce industrial accidents. It also encourages the use of the latest portable devices and equipment designed for detecting toxic and flammable gases associated with oil operations, in order to practice gas testing work, in accordance with approved international occupational safety and health standards.This intensive development program continues for five consecutive days to enhance the technical skills and occupational safety of the attendees from the South Gas Company. At the conclusion of the first day's work, the course witnessed great interaction from the participants from the South Gas Company, through scientific discussions and initial applications of occupational safety concepts in vital work sites.
Assistant Professor Dr. Maysaa Nouri Shehab, a faculty member at the College of Petroleum and Gas Engineering and Head of the Missions and Cultural Relations Division at the Presidency of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas, chaired the committee discussing the master's thesis of student Banin Mohammed Zamel in the Department of Earth Sciences at the College of Science, University of Basra. This participation comes within the framework of strengthening joint scientific cooperation between Iraqi universities. The thesis, entitled: (A Novel Facies-Based Rock Typing Approach for High-Resolution Stratigraphic Division of the Mishrif Formation in the Rumaila Oilfield, Iraq), discussed predicting a reservoir geological model to determine the petrophysical properties of the Mishrif Formation in the Rumaila Oilfield, through the use of core analyses and conventional (Wireline Logs) and advanced (NMR) probes, to identify the most efficient reservoir unit and examine it practically by selecting a water injection well and another for oil production.The discussion committee consisted of the following distinguished professors:Assistant Professor Dr. Maysaa Nouri Shehab – Chairperson.Dr. Najid Faisal Sharif – Member.M.D. Ajil Sawin Yassin – Member.Prof. Dr. Maher Mandeel Mahdi – Member and Supervisor.The session featured a thorough scholarly discussion covering the thesis's themes, methodology, and sources.
