Basra University for Oil and Gas launches a tree-planting campaign to enhance the environmental and aesthetic landscape of the university.
The University of Basra for Oil and Gas launched a voluntary tree-planting campaign on campus this morning, Monday, October 27, 2026, as part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability and improve the environmental and aesthetic situation at the university. This initiative was based on the urban tree-planting guide prepared by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the aim of creating a healthy environment suitable for students and teaching staff on campus.
The campaign witnessed active participation from professors and university staff, as a group of trees adapted to the nature of the Iraqi environment were planted, which contributes to enhancing green spaces within the university campus and adding an aesthetic character.
Mr. Muhammad Imad Shaheeb, the head of the horticulture unit, confirmed that the campaign will continue for continuous periods to preserve the university environment, taking into account the selection of appropriate plants and their planting locations, as planting trees is one of the most effective means of reducing environmental pollution and improving air quality, which positively impacts human health and enhances the sustainable educational environment and makes it more vibrant.
