The President of Basra University for Oil and Gas chairs the second expanded meeting with experts and economists to finalize the vision for establishing the specialized energy center.

On Monday morning, October 19, 2026, the President of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Muhammad Halil Hafez Al-Kaabi, chaired the second expanded meeting that brought together a number of experts, specialists and economists in the fields of oil, gas and energy, in order to continue discussing and completing the vision for establishing the (Energy Center for International Scientific and Legal Consultations) at the university.

The meeting witnessed extensive discussion of the future vision of the center, the nature of its tasks and specializations, and the mechanisms for including it within the organizational and administrative structure of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas in the future, as well as completing the scientific, administrative and legal requirements necessary to obtain the official approvals for its creation and establishment.

The participants stressed the importance of the center serving as a specialized platform that contributes to supporting decision-makers and providing insights and consulting studies in the energy sector, through analyzing the variables and challenges facing energy markets, predicting potential crises, and studying possible alternatives and solutions to ensure the sustainability and security of energy sources.

The meeting also discussed the expected role of the center in preparing studies and policies related to the transition in the energy sector towards renewable and clean energy sources, in line with global developments in the field of energy and sustainability, in addition to providing scientific, legal and economic advice to relevant parties.

The meeting also addressed the nature of the benefits and services that the center can provide, including preparing studies and consulting research, analyzing oil and energy policies and strategies, providing future visions, studying investments and energy projects, and building a specialized knowledge base that contributes to serving governmental institutions and the public and private sectors.

This meeting comes as part of the Basra University for Oil and Gas’s commitment to strengthening its scientific and advisory role in the oil, gas and energy sector, and employing its academic and specialized expertise in building research and advisory centers capable of providing scientific solutions and future visions that contribute to addressing the challenges of the energy sector and supporting sustainable development paths.
